A Creature a day – day 13 to 18

This project is really pushing me to try new techniques and colour combinations.

Today’s was supposed to be the last of this series, but I think I’ll just keep going and develop the theme, I’m having too much fun!

It all starts with a sketch of the Creature done with ultra fine point sharpies. I usually use two colours, mostly shades of the same colour.
I like to do a fast sketch with the lighter shade and then draw more accurately with the dark one.
Then I scan the drawing, clean and colour in photoshop.

It’s not a technique that I’ve been using too much until now, always preferring to work on vector illustrations or traditional drawing, with no help from photoshop. I think I’m converted now :-)

More vector illustrations

Between one daily creature and another and updating my website, I’ve managed to finish this vector illustration started a few month ago.

Created in Illustrator, a programme that I’ve been using for some time, but that I’m still trying to master.

There’ something vampiresque about it. Although that wasn’t my intention.

Maybe because of the big blue cloak-like coat, maybe because of the moon… I should develop the theme.

Creature of the day – 6 more Creatures joins the group

Been drawing a lot lately, among the other things.

For the second group I opted for a simpler technique: fast sketches with biro, with a few touches added with flou markers – simple but effective.

New group starting tomorrow. And I think it’s time for the full colour experience.

Creature of the day – Creature #6

Let me present you my delightful Creature 6.

I’m rather happy with it.
Maybe because 6 is my favourite number, maybe because today is the day of the Befana, one of my favourite holiday.

I’ve started the first draft in pencil, at work, and done the inking when back home, adding a few details.

I don’t usually draw in pencil, preferring to start directly with the pen, and I forgot how more flexible is to work with a pencil, you can always erase and correct! This is also permitting me to experiment a bit with shapes and decorations.

I’m already looking forward to tomorrow….

A creature a day – Day 5

Here’s Creature number 5.

At the moment I’m sticking to black and white, but I’m thinking of using a different technique each month. I like variety in repetition.
