These are so different from everything I’ve done before and especially from the last “party” series.
I’ve started this series during the Carnival and the idea of light hearted fun and colourful masks influenced my choice of mood and colours.
A few doubts here and there and the temptation to cover everything up and start again…something that I tend to do too often!
Being happy with the results I’m continuing the series, I don’t think that just four paintings express the full spirit of “the party”. I have a folder full of sketches that scream to be made into paintings!
I’ve also started to work on a series of monochrome paintings. I will post sketches and work in progress of these soon.
I really feel back into a strong creative period. And this is after saying I wouldn’t paint Creatures anymore, at least for a while. I do that I think, to scare myself, to stimulate my creativity, because after I make those kind of statements I usually work twice as hard and with new energy.
But now…here’s the first mask for this year party, a triumph of white and turquoise and plenty of swirly details.
