Abstract Bliss – an update
A few month ago I mentioned that I was experimenting with abstract painting, as a way to break away from my own artistic constrictions and explore other areas of my creativity.
Well, since then I have managed to produce quite a few canvasses, put together a tumblr gallery to showcase the paintings, and opened a little Etsy shop dedicated to my abstract art.
The sizes are small for now, as I want to be able to start and finish the paintings within reasonable time, while I keep the original concept fresh in my mind.
Way too often I start a piece and end up working on it for months (if not years!), and with time I feel it looses significance.
I’m planning to start working on larger pieces, the moment I manage to clear some space in my studio and time on my on calendar.
Abstract art have such a strong impact on large canvasses.

The tomb of the unknown craftsman
The first exhibition I visited this year has been Grayson Perry’s The tomb of the unknown craftsman, at The British Museum. It was a great way to start the year, and I am looking forward to more inspiring exhibitions.
It consists of a selection of Perry’s work, alongside artwork from the British Museum collection, chosen by Perry himself to explores different “themes connected with the notions of craftsmanship and sacred journeys”.*
It is a celebration of the physical act of making art and of the created object, it is a celebration of ideas and materials, and above all, a celebration of the artist as a craftsperson.
I have found it incredibly touching and inspiring. I strongly recommend it to anyone who appreciate arts, crafts and history.
It is still on, till the 26th of February.

Studies in black
I have been working on a series of black paintings.
Yes, all completely black.
The inspiration comes from the content of my wardrobe, which consists of mostly black clothes.
The rather difficult task of looking for a specific garment is made easier by the slightly different tones, textures, shininess of the black fabric.
That gave me the idea of exploring the colour through those characteristics.
These are the first 4 of the series. They measure 6×6 inches (15x15cm), oils on linen, my medium of choice at the moment.
The overall plan is to create sixteen of them, to make a square of 4 by 4.
