The tomb of the unknown craftsman

The tomb of the unknown craftsman

by tm · Feb 5, 2012

The first exhibition I visited this year has been Grayson Perry’s The tomb of the unknown craftsman, at The British Museum. It was a great way to start the year, and I am looking forward to more inspiring exhibitions.

It consists of a selection of Perry’s work, alongside artwork from the British Museum collection, chosen by Perry himself to explores different “themes connected with the notions of craftsmanship and sacred journeys”.*

It is a celebration of the physical act of making art and of the created object, it is a celebration of ideas and materials, and above all, a celebration of the artist as a craftsperson.

I have found it incredibly touching and inspiring. I strongly recommend it to anyone who appreciate arts, crafts and history.

It is still on, till the 26th of February.
