One of the challenges when visiting a touristic destination, is not to go back home with the camera full of picture postcard type of images.
Nothing wrong with that, in general. It is hard not to be tempted and take a few snaps of the major attractions and famous views. What I try to do when I visit a new place though, is to look at it with a different frame of mind. Yes, I guess that’s it, to be able to see things, places in different ways.
Sometimes I start by taking a few shots of the more obvious scenes, but after a little while I start looking for something different, I look for details, those little elements that make a place the way it is.
That was particular challenging during my visit to Santorini. I mean, the place IS a picture postcard! We also didn’t spend that much time there, so my mind was still taking in the overall picture by the time we left.
With Prague – pictured in this post – the situation was very different. I stayed longer enough, to be able to see beyond the main attractions and take hundreds of photos, with both Nikon and iPhone.
What I did miss, was having a longer lens. I would have loved to be able to take close up shots of some of the buildings. Prague is an architect’s (or someone with a love of architecture) dream, with the strange mix of art nouveau, gothic and modernism.
Now that I do have a longer lens, I’m looking forward to the next city break.
